Monday, 28TH  

S.R. 14 is open for Memorial Day weekend. The road will not yet be paved so motorists will be traveling on road base (dirt/gravel) during this time. The road will remain open until 7:00am, Tuesday, May 29. After that time, the road will be closed during the day and opened each night from 7:00pm to 7:00am, except on Friday where the road will open at 5:00pm and remain open until Monday at 7:00am. This will continue to be the schedule through July.

Memorial Day Recognition and Veteran’s Memorial Service held at the Cedar City Cemetery at 9:00am, including a Piper drum and bagpipe band, military salute, flag raising and lowering, and a short talk by an honored veteran. A Memorial Day Program is also held at Parowan Cemetery. All are welcome.

Friday, 1ST 

Cedar Valley Community Theatre presents: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat held 7:30pm at the Heritage Theater (105 N 100 E, Cedar City), admission is $8 adults and $5 children. Saturday, 2ND    
22ND Annual Parowan Fun Run Car Show held 8:00am in the Parowan Library Park (Center & Main St, Parowan), FREE, a full day of fun at the park with cars and trucks from every year. For more information call 435-477-9022 or 435-477-8190.

Ride the Gap Bike race starting at 8:00am at Lion’s Park (100 S 300 E, Parowan) travels through the Parowan Gap and ends back at the Lion’s Park. There are three different mileage options: 30 Mile $35, Metric Century 55 Miles $50, or Full Century 100 Miles $55. For information call 435-229-6251.

Ladybug Nursery Gardening Class held 10:00am to 11:00am at Ladybug Nursery (42 S Westview Dr, Cedar City) and featuring “Ways to Keep your Garden in Tip Top Shape” by Dean Winward (SUU Professor). For information call 435-586-3805.

7th Annual Cedar City Area Chamber of Commerce Expo held 3:00pm to 8:00pm in the Cedar City Main Street Park (corner of 200 N and Main St). There will be food booths, bounce houses, climbing wall and entertainment, as well as business booths. For information call 435-586-4484.

Saturday, 19TH

Solar Eclipse Extravaganza held 11:00am – 3:00pm at the Cedar City Community Center (2090 W Royal Hunte Dr, Cedar City), FREE. Come for an enjoyable afternoon filled with “hands on” activities, learning stations and a whole lot of fun for the entire family. There will be experts with telescopes to discuss safe viewing of the eclipse that will occur the next day. By visiting each station individuals can earn a free pass to swim at the Aquatic Center. Come get your “Sweet Spot” Eclipse Glasses (while supplies last) and obtain a map of locations where the eclipse will be viewable.

“Sweet Spot” Concert held at 7:30pm at Cobble Crest (Kanarraville), tickets are $12 at Groovacious in Cedar City or at the gate, and featuring singer/songwriter Doug Haywood with special guest Karyn Whittemore. NO alcoholic beverages in the park and be sure to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.

Groovefest Support Party held 8:00pm at Mike’s Tavern (90 W Hoover Ave, Cedar City), admission is $5 at the door to see seven acts, lots of jamming and some suprises are promised. All proceeds go to help the 10th Annual Groovefest concert in the park.

Candle Light Vigil held at 8:45pm at the Canyon Trail Bridge (1/2 mile up Hwy 14), the event will include speakers and balloon release followed by campfire pot-luck (bring something to share). For more information call Shannon or Tia 435-865-6481 or Jill 435-592-1349.


Sunday, 20TH    
2012 Annular Eclipse Kanarraville is considered to be the Scenic “Sweet Spot” to view the Ring of Fire Solar Eclipse. The Annular Solar Eclipse will occur from 6:33pm to 8:37pm. Events in Kanarraville will include food, telescopes, and more.  one of the best viewing areas in the northern hemisphere due to our I-15 location, completely unobstructed view and perfect line-of-site to observe the “annulus” of the eclipse.
