SUU’s Ashcroft Observatory, free star-gazing, located on the hilltop just south of the SUU Farm on Westview Drive (Hwy 56 W to Westview Drive).  Open 9:00pm to 11:00pm, interested parties should plan on arriving at the observatory just as the sun sets. Toadz Talent Showcase, held from 9:00pm to 1:00am at Toadz (432 N 100 W, Cedar City) $4 cover charge. All performers are welcome, hosted by Pablo “Of the Mountain” Schwartz. For more info call 435-867-8988.

Cedar Square Dancing Classes begin at 7:00pm in the Senior Center (489 E 200 South, Cedar City).  The first class is free, cost after is $7 a couple or $3.50 a person. For more information please call Pat and Hazel Matthews 435-867-9210 or 435-531-6811.

Friday Music Memories held 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Emerald Pointe (995 S Regency Rd, Cedar City) FREE program for music lovers with a variety of musicians from Iron County. Cedar City Spring Fling Carnival held at 1017 N Main St, Cedar City (across from Parkway Motors) 5:00pm Thursday & Friday and 12:00pm (noon) Saturday and Sunday. Ride, Play & Eat: Mom or dad can ride all day with ticketed child $10 with $3 in food or game tokens. Single tickets $1.50, 10 ticket sheet $14.00 or unlimited rides $18 (includes unlimited rides & 5 food or game tokens).

Benefit Community Night held 4:00pm to 9:00pm at Canyon View High School (166 W 1925 N, Cedar City) proceeds will benefit Jarom Hlebasko, paralyzed in an accident in Nov. 2000, undergo a new stem-cell procedure to help improve his life. The event will include several local groups performing, children’s carnival ($5 for unlimited activities or $1 per ticket), spaghetti dinner (salad and bread – $7 adults, $5 children or $25 family of five), pizza dinner ($2 per slice or $4 pizza & salad), drinks $1, silent auction, and an Extreme Zumba party will be from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. Admission to the event is $3 per person.


May 4
OSU: Suzuki Strings Concert held at 7:00pm in the Heritage Theater (105 N 100 E, Cedar City) admission is a suggested $5 donation. Suzuki Strings students, age 4 through adult, perform on violin, viola, and cello. Music ranges from classical composers such as Bach and Boccherini to fiddle tunes like Irish Washerwoman and Tennessee Waltz. For information call 435-586-2286.

Utah Summer Games & SUU School of Continuing & Professional Studies Open House held 3:00pm to 7:00pm at 136 W University Blvd, Cedar City. Come see the new office for the Utah Summer Games and SUU School of Continuing & Professional Studies, meet the Utah Jazz BEAR, enjoy refreshment provided by Costa Vida, Coca-cola Bottling Company & Lin’s Market, fun and games provided by Cedar City Lions Club, and Music provided by Cherry Creek Media (3:00pm to 5:00pm) and Canyon Media “Gives Back” (5:00pm to 7:00pm).

Shrine Circus – A One-Ring Circus Ensemble held in the Parowan High School Auditorium (50 W 100 N, Parowan) at 7:00pm. Admission is $9 adults and $7 children, Family passes available for 2 adults and 3 kids $30 – tickets are available at the Parowan Cafe. Proceeds benefit El Kalah Shrine Center. The circus will showcase trapeze, rope walking, a five – person juggling act, contortion, unicycle, original clowning, and audience participation.

Southern Utah University 2011 Commencement at the Centrum Arena (SUU Campus, 351 W University Blvd, Cedar City).

Community Presbyterian Church Rummage Sale held at the Presbyterian Church (2279 N Wedgewood Ln, Fiddler’s Canyon, Cedar City) from 8am-7pm. Crafts and baked goods will also be for sale.

Memorial Day Recognition and Veteran’s Memorial Service Held at the Cedar City Cemetery at 9am and includes a Piper drum and bagpipe band, military salute, flag raising and lowering, and a short talk by an honored veteran. A Memorial Day Program is also held at Parowan Cemetery. All are welcome.
